1967 Topps #454 6th Series Checklist: 458-533
Front pictures Juan Marichal; two collectible states differ by whether his left ear shows in the portrait.

About this card
The seven checklist cards (#62, 103, 191, 278, 361, 454, 531) introduced floating-head star photos - Frank Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Jim Kaat, Roberto Clemente, Juan Marichal and Brooks Robinson in card order. From 1967 each checklist's range matches one distribution series exactly: #62 lists its own series (1-109), and the other six each list the series after the one they were issued in. Four of the seven (#62, #103, #191, #454) carry catalogued variations.
The story on this card
Card 454 is the checklist for 1967 Topps' sixth series, covering numbers 458 through 533. Rather than a plain type-set design, Topps put Juan Marichal, the San Francisco Giants ace, front and center; he was one of seven stars, alongside names like Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente, chosen to headline a checklist that year. The card exists in two collectible states distinguished by a small detail in the portrait: one shows Marichal's left ear, the other does not, and both states turn up regularly in the graded market. As a checklist rather than a standard player card, it lists the run of numbers collectors used to track down the rest of the series, while doubling as one of the more eye-catching pieces in the set thanks to Marichal's likeness.
Print variations
Two states of #454 are tracked individually: 454a - Juan Marichal-No Left Ear and 454b - Juan Marichal-Left Ear Shows. The difference is on the front of the card (photo crop).
States catalogued by the PSA master set registry and the Trading Card Database; each is tracked here individually.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Data as of 2026-09-04. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation; SGC slabs whose label names no variation are counted under 454a - Juan Marichal-No Left Ear. PSA registers a row for every one of the 624 states; SGC lists no separate row for the #149 white-streak state.
