1967 Topps #531 7th Series Checklist: 534-609

About this card
The seven checklist cards (#62, 103, 191, 278, 361, 454, 531) introduced floating-head star photos - Frank Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Jim Kaat, Roberto Clemente, Juan Marichal and Brooks Robinson in card order. From 1967 each checklist's range matches one distribution series exactly: #62 lists its own series (1-109), and the other six each list the series after the one they were issued in. Four of the seven (#62, #103, #191, #454) carry catalogued variations.
The story on this card
Card 531 is the checklist for the seventh and final series of the 1967 Topps set, listing card numbers 534 through 609. The checklist card itself, however, is numbered into the sixth series, one series ahead of the cards it lists. Rather than a portrait shot, the front carries a small floating headshot of Brooks Robinson, the Orioles' star third baseman, set against the checklist box listing the run of numbers for collectors to mark off as they completed the set. Card 531 was printed as a double print within its series, so it survives in larger numbers than many of its series-mates, a fact collectors track alongside condition when comparing copies.

It is card #531 of the 609-card 1967 Topps Baseball set, 7th Series Checklist: 534-609. The seven checklist cards (#62, 103, 191, 278, 361, 454, 531) introduced floating-head star photos - Frank Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Jim Kaat, Roberto Clemente, Juan Marichal and Brooks Robinson in card order. Is 1967 Topps #531 a scarce card?
It is from the sixth print series, #458-533 - noticeably tougher than the first five. It is also a double print card (26 cards: #1, #30, #100, the #531 checklist and 22 high numbers). Cards printed twice on the sheet, so more plentiful than their neighbours: #1 The Champs, #30 Al Kaline, #100 Frank Robinson, the #531 seventh-series checklist, and 22 of the 76 high numbers (#534, 537, 539, 542, 547, 548, 550, 551, 554, 556, 559, 562, 564, 566, 569, 582, 588, 589, 596, 599, 601, 608), Carew #569 included. A high number that is also a double print is easier than its series suggests.

609 cards, tracked as 624 collectible states. Numbers run from 1 to 609 without a gap - no number was skipped and none was used twice - and 15 cards carry catalogued print variations that the master set counts separately.
