1967 Topps #415 Sonny Jackson
Front carries the Topps All-Star Rookie trophy for Jackson's selection to the 1966 All-Star Rookie team.

About Sonny Jackson
Houston kept Jackson at shortstop in 1967 for a harder year at the plate: 129 games, 520 at-bats, a .237 average, 67 runs, 25 RBI and not one home run. His 1967 Topps card is #415 from the fifth print series. The small trophy printed on the front marks his selection to the Topps All-Star Rookie team for 1966. It was also the last Topps card to picture him in a Houston uniform.
Roland Thomas Jackson, known as Sonny Jackson, was a left-handed hitting, right-handed throwing shortstop who spent twelve major league seasons with Houston and Atlanta between 1963 and 1974. Born July 9, 1944, in Washington, D.C., and listed at 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds, he debuted for the Houston Colt .45's on September 27, 1963 and got only scattered at-bats over the next two seasons. Because those trials were short he still qualified as a rookie in 1966, and he made it count: a .292 average, a National League-best 160 singles and 27 sacrifice hits, and 49 stolen bases that tied the major league rookie record Rollie Zeider set in 1910. Houston kept him at shortstop through 1967, and he spent the rest of his career with the Atlanta Braves. He was the Braves shortstop when Atlanta won the 1969 National League West, though the New York Mets swept the three-game NLCS, and he later moved to the outfield for a full 1971 season before his last game on July 9, 1974. Over 936 games he hit .251 with 767 hits, 7 home runs, 162 RBI and 126 stolen bases. He stayed in the game afterward as a minor league coach and manager in the Braves and San Francisco Giants organizations and as a coach with the Giants.
