The story on this card
This team card reports on a 1967 Chicago White Sox club that came within a game of the pennant, only to drop all five of its final contests and finish fourth, three games behind Boston. Manager Eddie Stanky's staff carried the club: Gary Peters and Tommy John started, Joe Horlen threw a September no-hitter that helped keep the race alive, and knuckleballer Hoyt Wilhelm anchored the bullpen, posting a 1.31 ERA with 12 saves. The White Sox led the league with a 2.45 team ERA, and Wilhelm's plaque-bound arm was the headline name on the 1967 staff. Tommie Agee, Ken Berry, Horlen, and Peters had represented the club at that summer's All-Star Game. Games were played at Comiskey Park, where the club went 49-33 at home.
