The story on this card
This team card reports the club's last season in Kansas City before the franchise's 1968 move to Oakland. The 1967 Athletics finished 62-99, last in the American League, 29 1/2 games behind pennant-winner Boston, playing their home games at Municipal Stadium. Alvin Dark managed the club for most of the year until he was let go, and coach Luke Appling, a Hall of Fame shortstop from his playing days with the White Sox, took over to finish out the season. On the mound, young right-hander Catfish Hunter paced the pitching staff with a 2.81 ERA, while outfielder Reggie Jackson made his major league debut that June and got his first look at big-league pitching. Part of Topps' seventh and final series for the year, this high number reports the 1967 Kansas City club on the eve of the franchise's cross-country relocation.
