1969 Topps #582 7th Series Check List: 589-664
Pictures Minnesota Twins outfielder Tony Oliva; the two printing states are distinguished by a white or red circle printed around the card number on the card back.

About this card
The seven checklist cards (#57, 107, 214, 314, 412, 504, 582) each list one series, and every checklist after the first was printed inside the series before the one it lists - #107 "2nd Series Check List" is a series-1 card. Six of the seven carry an inset photo of a star player, and two of them (#107 and #582) exist in two printing states.
The story on this card
Card 582 is the 7th series checklist covering numbers 589 through 664, printed with Minnesota Twins right fielder Tony Oliva on the front. Collectors separate two printing states by the color of the circle printed around the card number on the back: 582a has a white circle, 582b has a red circle. By the time this checklist reached packs, Oliva was coming off an injury-shortened 1968 in which he still hit .289, good for third in the American League even after missing the season's final 34 games. He had already won back-to-back AL batting titles in 1964 and 1965 and remained one of Minnesota's most recognizable hitters, making him a natural face for a series-marker card collectors handled repeatedly while working through their want lists.

Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation; SGC slabs whose label names no variation are counted under 582a - White Circle On Back.
