1969 Topps #317 Bruce Look

About Bruce Look
Card #317, from the third series of the 1969 Topps set, is Bruce Look's Topps Rookie Card and his only Topps issue. Pictured as a Minnesota Twins catcher, it commemorates his lone major-league season in 1968, when he played 41 games in the field behind veteran John Roseboro, batting .246 in 59 games with 29 hits, four doubles, and nine runs batted in. Look never returned to Topps' checklist after 1969, having played his last minor-league season in 1971.
Bruce Michael Look was born June 9, 1943, in Lansing, Michigan. A left-handed batter who threw right-handed, he stood 5 feet 11 inches and weighed 183 pounds. He played football and baseball at Michigan State University before serving in the United States Army, then signed his first professional baseball contract. Look reached the majors in 1968 as a catcher with the Minnesota Twins, appearing in 59 games and working behind veteran John Roseboro, another left-handed hitter, in 41 games in the field. He batted .246 with 29 hits, including four doubles, and drove in nine runs. It was his only big-league season; he continued in the minors through 1971. He is the younger brother of Dean Look, who played for the Chicago White Sox in 1961 and was a longtime on-field official in the National Football League.
