1970 Topps #244 Checklist: 264-372

About this card
This is one of the seven checklist cards (#9, #128, #244, #343, #432, #542 and #588), and they follow the seven series exactly: #9 lists the first series, and each of the other six, printed in the series before, lists the next one, from #128 (#133-263) to #588 (#634-720). Those six each come in two states - #128 and #588 a correction on one checklist line, #244, #343 and #542 the color of the bat on the front, and #432 the color of "Baseball" on the front.
The story on this card
Card #244 is a checklist that carries the listing for cards #264-372, the third series. The card itself was printed in the second series. Among the cards it lists are Rod Carew at #290, Tom Seaver at #300 and Roberto Clemente at #350. Topps issued it in two printings that differ in the color of the bat pictured on the front, red or brown. Collectors catalogue the brown-bat version as a variation of the common printing. Checklist #343 splits between red and brown bats, #542 between gray and brown, and #432 differs in the color of the lettering on the baseball. The 1970 set carried gray borders.
