About this card
This is one of the 24 team cards, one for each club, and every club also has a manager card of its own.
The story on this card
The 1969 Chicago White Sox went 68-94, fifth in the new American League West and 29 games behind Minnesota. Al Lopez went 8-9 as manager before Don Gutteridge took over and finished the year at 60-85. Luis Aparicio was on the roster, and both he and Lopez are in the Hall of Fame. The club nearly left Chicago that year. Owner Arthur Allyn Jr. listened to Bud Selig and other Milwaukee interests about moving it to County Stadium, then sold to his brother John instead. Eleven home games were played in Milwaukee, drawing 198,211 fans. The 70 dates at Comiskey Park drew 391,335, about 5,591 a game. Topps numbered the White Sox team card #501 in the fifth series of the 1970 set.
