The story on this card
The Montreal Expos opened their first major league season on April 8, 1969, at Shea Stadium, and finished last in the National League East at 52-110, 48 games behind the New York Mets, the eventual World Series champions. Gene Mauch managed all 162 games. The club scored 582 runs and allowed 791, and it did not win a single game in extra innings. The season's surprise came on April 17, when Bill Stoneman no-hit the Phillies 7-0 in the franchise's ninth regular-season game. Rusty Staub, an All-Star reserve, hit .302 with 29 home runs, and Mack Jones added 22. Jarry Park drew 1,212,608 fans, seventh in the league. 1970 Topps #509 is the Expos team card, from the fifth series.
