1970 Topps #713 Seattle Pilots

About this card
This is one of the 24 team cards, one for each club, and every club also has a manager card of its own.
The story on this card
The Seattle Pilots existed for one season, 1969. Topps #713 in the 1970 set is the Pilots team card, a high number from the seventh series. Joe Schultz's expansion club went 64-98 and finished sixth in the new American League West, 33 games behind the Minnesota Twins, scoring 639 runs and allowing 799. Home games were played at aging Sick's Stadium, where attendance of 677,944 ranked 20th of the 24 major league clubs despite some of the highest ticket prices in the majors. The money problems ended in bankruptcy, and a federal court in Seattle approved the sale of the team on March 31, 1970. The franchise opened the 1970 season in Milwaukee as the Brewers, yet Topps still issued Pilots cards in every series that year. Jim Bouton's Ball Four documented part of the Pilots' season.
