The story on this card

Topps #603 in the 1971 set is the Pittsburgh Pirates team card, from the fifth series. The 1970 club won the franchise's first National League East title. Danny Murtaugh's team went 89-73, finished five games ahead of the Chicago Cubs, then lost the NLCS to the Cincinnati Reds in three straight games. The roster carried Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente, Bill Mazeroski and Willie Stargell, and Clemente hit .352 in 108 games. Pittsburgh opened the year at Forbes Field, where Mazeroski got the last hit in a June doubleheader sweep of the Cubs, and moved into Three Rivers Stadium on July 16. The club also became the first major league team to adopt pullover jerseys and sans-a-belt pants, a style the Pirates wore through 1990.
