The story on this card
The 1972 Detroit Tigers won the American League East at 86-70, a half game ahead of the Boston Red Sox, under manager Billy Martin. A strike had cancelled early games unevenly, so Detroit was scheduled for one more game than Boston, and the Tigers took two of three in the final series to settle it. Al Kaline and Norm Cash, both 37, led the lineup: Kaline hit .313 and Cash had 22 home runs and 61 RBIs. Mickey Lolich won 22 games with a 2.50 ERA and 250 strikeouts, Joe Coleman won 19, and Woodie Fryman went 10-3 after an August acquisition. Ed Brinkman won the Gold Glove at shortstop. The Tigers lost the ALCS to Oakland, three games to two. This is the 1973 Topps #191 Detroit Tigers team card, part of the second series.
