The story on this card
Boston won 89 games in 1973 and finished second in the American League East, eight games behind the Baltimore Orioles. Eddie Kasko ran the club until he was reassigned at the end of September, and third-base coach Eddie Popowski managed the final game. The Red Sox scored 738 runs and allowed 647 with a 3.65 team ERA. They drew 1,481,002 to Fenway Park. The roster held four future Hall of Famers: Carlton Fisk, Carl Yastrzemski, Luis Aparicio and Orlando Cepeda. Aparicio and Cepeda appear in this set on what were their last base cards, at #61 and #83. Popowski appears among the coaches on the manager card at #403, headed by Darrell Johnson. The Red Sox team card is #567 in the 1974 Topps set.
