The story on this card

The Cincinnati Reds took the 1973 National League West at 99-63, the best record in the majors, finishing 3 1/2 games ahead of the Dodgers under Sparky Anderson. On July 1, third-string catcher Hal King pinch-hit a walk-off home run off Don Sutton with Cincinnati trailing 3-1 and 11 games behind Los Angeles, a game Anderson cited as a turning point of the season. Pete Rose won the MVP, batting a league-best .338 with a team-record 230 hits. Joe Morgan stole 67 bases and Tony Perez drove in 101 runs. Johnny Bench slipped from 40 home runs to 25 after lung surgery. Fred Norman, acquired from San Diego on June 12, went 12-6, and Ken Griffey debuted with a .384 average in 86 at-bats. The Reds lost the NLCS to the Mets in five games. Card #459 is the Reds team card in the 1974 Topps team subset.
