The story on this card

The 1973 Mets won the National League pennant at 82-79, the lowest winning percentage of any pennant-winner in major league history. They were in last place on August 30, yet within 6 1/2 games of first, and sat at 77-77 on September 21 with a half-game lead after sweeping Pittsburgh at Shea Stadium. They clinched the East at Wrigley Field on October 1, when Tom Seaver won his 19th game and Tug McGraw saved it. McGraw's cry of "Ya Gotta Believe" became the catchphrase of 1973, and in his last 19 games he converted 12 saves with a 0.88 ERA. Yogi Berra managed, with Seaver, Jerry Koosman, Jon Matlack and George Stone in the rotation. Oakland beat New York 4-3 in the World Series, and Willie Mays has a card in the Series subset at #473. This Mets team card is #56 in the 1974 Topps set.
