The story on this card
Boston began 1975 as a Las Vegas long shot, then won the American League East at 95-65 under Darrell Johnson, who appears in the inset on this team card, #118. Carlton Fisk, back from the knee injury of 1974, was hit on the right arm in spring training, broke it, and was sidelined for at least a couple of months. Rookies Fred Lynn and Jim Rice supplied the power, and the pitching staff had ace Luis Tiant with Rick Wise, Bill Lee and Reggie Cleveland. The Red Sox swept Oakland in the ALCS, their first trip to the World Series since 1967. Against Cincinnati they scored first in six of the seven games and entered the sixth inning of Game 7 leading 3-0, but the Reds won it 4-3 when Carl Yastrzemski's ninth-inning drive settled in Cesar Geronimo's glove.
