Dick Williams' Angels finished 72-89, sixth in the American League West, and hit 55 home runs all year. Boston's Bill Lee joked that they could take batting practice in a hotel lobby without damaging a chandelier. Leroy Stanton led the club with 14 homers and 82 RBI, and Mickey Rivers collected 175 hits. Frank Tanana went 16-9 with a 2.62 ERA and 269 strikeouts. Ed Figueroa won 16 games, and Nolan Ryan went 14-12 with 186 strikeouts. The club played at Anaheim Stadium and drew 1,058,163.
