The story on this card
The 1975 Yankees played their home games at Shea Stadium while Yankee Stadium was rebuilt, and the renovated park reopened in 1976. Bill Virdon managed the club to a 53-51 start, and on August 1 Billy Martin replaced him, beginning the first of his five stints in the job. Martin, the man in the inset on this team card, #17, went 30-26 the rest of the way. New York finished 83-77, third in the American League East and 12 games behind Boston. Catfish Hunter went 23-14 with a 2.58 ERA, and Thurman Munson hit .318 with 102 RBI. The staff allowed 588 runs while the offense scored 681. Virdon was hired by Houston within three weeks of his dismissal.
