The story on this card

Ted Turner bought the Braves for $10 million on January 7, 1976, and the club that Dave Bristol managed to a 70-92 record finished sixth and last in the National League West. On April 11 Turner signed free agent Andy Messersmith, a 19-game winner for the 1975 Dodgers, to a contract worth more than $1 million, and Messersmith made the NL All-Star team. Phil Niekro led the staff at 17-11 with a 3.29 ERA over 270 2/3 innings, while Messersmith went 11-11 with a 3.04 ERA. Turner went through three general managers in the year, ending with Bill Lucas, who took the job on September 17 as the first African-American general manager in the major leagues. Attendance at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium reached 818,179, a 53 percent rise over 1975. Topps #442 is the Braves team card, with Bristol in the inset photo that every 1977 team card carries.
