About this card

This is one of the 26 team cards, one for each club. Twenty-four carry their manager; the two clubs that debuted in 1977, #113 Toronto Blue Jays and #597 Seattle Mariners, carry the manager and his coaches instead.

The story on this card

Baltimore's 1976 began with an April 2 trade that sent Don Baylor, Mike Torrez and Paul Mitchell to Oakland for Reggie Jackson, Ken Holtzman and a minor leaguer. Jackson did not report right away; his first plate appearance came May 2, and he hit 27 home runs with 91 RBI. Jim Palmer went 22-13 with a 2.51 ERA over 315 innings. Doug DeCinces took over third base from 39-year-old Brooks Robinson; it was the first year since 1957 that anyone but Robinson made the most starts there. Earl Weaver's club finished 88-74, second in the AL East behind the 97-win Yankees, and stayed in the race until a 1-0 loss to Boston at Memorial Stadium on September 25. Jackson, Bobby Grich and Wayne Garland left as free agency began. Weaver shares team card #546. Topps made a proof card of Jackson as an Oriole but pulled it from production when he signed with the Yankees.
