The story on this card
Chicago went 64-97 in 1976 under manager Paul Richards, the worst record in the 12-team American League and 25 1/2 games behind division champion Kansas City. Bill Veeck had bought 80 percent of the club effective December 18, 1975, keeping the White Sox in Chicago after pressure on John Allyn to sell to Seattle interests. Under the new ownership the club changed its colors from red to navy, switched to collared, untucked jerseys, and replaced the Comiskey Park AstroTurf infield, used from 1969 through 1975, with natural grass. Rich Gossage made 29 starts and pitched 224 innings with a 3.94 ERA, and Minnie Minoso, signed as a free agent on September 10, appeared in three games. Team card #418 in the 1977 Topps set carries Bob Lemon in the manager's inset.
