The story on this card
The Dodgers of 1976 won 92 and lost 70 and finished second in the National League West, 10 games behind the Cincinnati Reds, in the club's 15th season at Dodger Stadium. Walter Alston, manager for two decades, resigned abruptly near the end of the season, and Tommy Lasorda replaced him, going 2-2 after Alston's 90-68. Lasorda held the job for two decades himself, and his inset portrait sits on card #504, the Dodgers team card in the 1977 Topps set. Steve Garvey hit .317 and started the All-Star Game at first base, while Don Sutton, a future Hall of Famer, went 21-10 with a 3.06 ERA. The staff allowed 543 runs and threw 17 shutouts, and the club hit 91 home runs. The June draft brought in catcher Mike Scioscia, who caught for the club from 1980 to 1992.
