The story on this card
The Mets of 1976 won 86 games and lost 76 under manager Joe Frazier, the best record the club posted in the 1970s. They finished third in the National League East, fifteen games behind the Philadelphia Phillies. Tom Seaver and Joe Torre, both Hall of Famers, were on the roster. The staff ERA was 2.94, and Shea Stadium drew 1,468,754. On September 16, before 5,472 fans, Jerry Koosman beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 for his 20th win, going the distance despite a home run by Keith Hernandez, a future Met. He was the second pitcher in Mets history to win 20 games in a season. Topps card #259 in the 1977 set pictures the team with Frazier in an inset photo.
