The story on this card
The 1976 Yankees went 97-62 and won the American League East by 10 1/2 games over Baltimore, their first division title and first postseason trip since 1964. Billy Martin managed the club back into a renovated Yankee Stadium after two seasons at Shea, and Thurman Munson, named captain, won the MVP with a .302 average and 105 RBI. Graig Nettles led the league with 32 home runs, and Catfish Hunter was one of six Yankees at the All-Star Game. Chris Chambliss's walk-off homer in Game 5 beat Kansas City in the ALCS, but Cincinnati swept the World Series 4-0. Team card #387 in the 1977 Topps set shows Martin in the inset.
