The story on this card

Oakland went 87-74 in 1976 under Chuck Tanner and finished second in the American League West, 2 1/2 games behind the Kansas City Royals, missing the playoffs for the first time since 1970. The A's stole 341 bases, an American League record that still stands. The roster included Hall of Famers Rollie Fingers, Willie McCovey and Billy Williams, alongside Sal Bando, Joe Rudi, Bert Campaneris and Don Baylor. On June 15 owner Charlie Finley sold Rudi and Fingers to the Boston Red Sox for $1 million each and Vida Blue to the New York Yankees for $1.5 million; three days later Commissioner Bowie Kuhn voided the deals. Nearly all the stars left after the season, and the club's win total fell by 24 in 1977. The Athletics team card is #74, with manager Jack McKeon in the inset photo.
