The story on this card
The Cardinals of 1976 went 72-90 and finished fifth in the National League East, 29 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies. It was Red Schoendienst's twelfth and last season as full-time manager, though he would manage the club again in parts of 1980 and 1990. The club wore Columbia blue road uniforms for the first time, a look it kept through 1984. Lou Brock hit .301 and stole 56 bases, and Ted Simmons hit .291. The team scored 629 runs and allowed 671 while playing its home games at Busch Stadium. The #183 team card in the 1977 Topps set pairs the club photo with an inset of Vern Rapp, the manager listed for 1977.
