The story on this card
The 1976 Rangers finished fourth in the American League West at 76-86 under manager Frank Lucchesi, their fifth season in Arlington Stadium. On June 1, Texas sent Bill Singer, Roy Smalley, Mike Cubbage, Jim Gideon and $250,000 to Minnesota for Bert Blyleven and infielder Danny Thompson. Blyleven was 9-11 with a 2.76 ERA over 202 1/3 innings for the club. Gaylord Perry went 15-14 with a 3.24 ERA over 250 innings. Mike Hargrove hit .287 and Jim Sundberg won a Gold Glove behind the plate. The club scored 616 runs and allowed 652. Topps #428 pictures the team with Lucchesi in an inset photo. Thompson died in the 1976-77 offseason, and a Topps card of him was pulled from production before release.
