About this card

This is one of the 26 team cards, one for every club. Team cards and manager cards are separate cards this year, and every club except the Milwaukee Brewers also has a manager card - George Bamberger was hired in late January 1978, too late to be included.

The story on this card

Tommy Lasorda's first full season as Dodgers manager, after he replaced Walter Alston near the end of 1976, produced 98 wins and a National League West title by 10 games. Los Angeles beat the Philadelphia Phillies in four games in the NLCS, then lost the World Series to the Yankees, four games to two. The lineup was the first with four teammates at 30 or more home runs: Steve Garvey hit 33, Reggie Smith 32, and Dusty Baker and Ron Cey 30 each. Don Sutton, a future Hall of Famer, went 14-8 and was the All-Star Game MVP. The staff held opponents to 582 runs with a 3.22 team ERA, and Dodger Stadium drew 2,955,087. Topps put the club on team card #259 in its 1978 set.
