The Expos of 1977 opened Olympic Stadium after eight seasons at Jarry Park, drawing 57,592 to the first regular-season game, then finished fifth in the National League East at 75-87, 26 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies. Dick Williams managed a club that scored 665 runs and allowed 736. Catcher Gary Carter led the team with 31 home runs and first baseman Tony Perez drove in 91. Outfielder Ellis Valentine hit .293 with 25 homers and reached the All-Star Game as a reserve.
