About this card

The story on this card

San Francisco spent 1977 in fourth place in the National League West at 75-87, 23 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the club's 20th season in the city and 18th at Candlestick Park. Willie McCovey, the Hall of Famer on the roster, led the team with 28 home runs and 86 RBI. Ed Halicki won 16 games, and reliever Gary Lavelle saved 20 with a 2.05 ERA and was the club's lone All-Star. The Giants had sent Bobby Murcer to the Cubs in a February trade. Attendance for the year was 700,056. Topps issued the Giants team card as #82 in its 1978 set, and McCovey also appears that year on the Record Breakers card #3. Joe Altobelli, who managed the club, has his own manager card at #256.
