About this card

The story on this card

Vern Rapp replaced Red Schoendienst, who had managed St. Louis for twelve years, and the 1977 Cardinals went 83-79, third in the National League East and 18 games behind the Phillies. Bob Forsch went 20-7 with a 3.48 ERA. Ted Simmons hit .318 with 21 home runs and 95 RBI, and Garry Templeton batted .322 with 200 hits and a league-leading 19 triples. Lou Brock hit .272 in 1977, and on August 29 in San Diego he stole bases 892 and 893 against the Padres to break the modern-day stolen base record. The club played at Busch Stadium II and drew 1,659,287. Brock has the Record Breakers card at #1 and his own at #170 in the 1978 Topps set. This team card, #479, belongs to the team-card subset.
