1978 Topps #659 Texas Rangers Team
Hall of Famers on the 1977 Texas Rangers roster: Bert Blyleven and Gaylord Perry.

About this card
This is one of the 26 team cards, one for every club. Team cards and manager cards are separate cards this year, and every club except the Milwaukee Brewers also has a manager card - George Bamberger was hired in late January 1978, too late to be included.
The story on this card
Texas won 94 games in 1977 and finished second in the American League West, using an American League record four managers along the way. Frank Lucchesi started the season and was replaced after the club reached June at .500. Eddie Stanky was introduced on June 17, managed one game and went home to Alabama, saying only that he was homesick. Connie Ryan filled in for six games, and Billy Hunter then took over and went 60-33 the rest of the way. Hall of Famers Bert Blyleven and Gaylord Perry were on the pitching staff, and the club played its sixth season at Arlington Stadium. It began the year without shortstop Danny Thompson, who died of leukemia in December 1976 after playing 64 games for Texas that season. Card #659 is the Rangers team card in the 1978 Topps set.
