The story on this card

The 1978 White Sox finished 71-90, fifth in the American League West and 20.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals. Bob Lemon, a Hall of Famer, went 34-40 as manager, and Larry Doby, also in Cooperstown, went 37-50. Comiskey Park drew 1,491,100. Shortstop Don Kessinger, acquired from St. Louis in August 1977 for pitcher Steve Staniland, hit .255 in 131 games that season and was honored with a Don Kessinger Night on September 8, 1978. On October 19, White Sox president Bill Veeck named him player-manager. Topps #404 is the White Sox team card, with Kessinger as its manager.

A smooth-fielding Chicago Cubs shortstop from 1964 to 1975, Don Kessinger made six All-Star teams and won two Gold Gloves alongside longtime double-play partner Glenn Beckert.
