About this card

The story on this card
Whitey Herzog's Royals won 92 games in 1978 and a third straight American League West title, with George Brett, a future Hall of Famer, in the lineup at Royals Stadium. October brought the same opponent as the two years before. Kansas City opened the American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees with games on October 3 and 4 at home, then moved to Yankee Stadium for October 6 and 7. The Yankees took the series three games to one, the third autumn running that Kansas City finished one round short of the World Series. Card #451 is the team card for Herzog's Royals.
An outfielder for four American League clubs from 1956 to 1963, Whitey Herzog became the Hall of Fame manager behind Whiteyball, winning three straight division titles in Kansas City and the 1982 World Series in St. Louis.
