About this card

This is one of the 26 team cards, one for each club, and each also carries the club's manager - there are no separate manager cards in 1979.

The story on this card

Montreal finished fourth in the National League East in 1978 at 76-86, 14 games behind the Phillies, under manager Dick Williams. The roster carried three future Hall of Famers, Gary Carter, Andre Dawson and Tony Perez, and Ross Grimsley became the last Expos pitcher to win 20 games in a season. The club drew 1,427,007 to Olympic Stadium, where Canadian Bill Atkinson was the winning pitcher and scored the winning run in the first Pearson Cup game against Toronto on June 29. Topps #606 is the Expos team card, listed with Williams as the manager.

Dick Williams was a well-traveled utility man turned Hall of Fame manager, driving Boston's 1967 'Impossible Dream' pennant and Oakland's back-to-back World Series titles in 1972-73 on his way to four pennants and 1,571 career managerial wins.
