The story on this card

Chuck Tanner's Pirates went 88-73 in 1978 and finished second in the National League East, a game and a half behind a Phillies club that won 90. Pittsburgh went 18-12 in August and 21-9 in September, with 17 of those 21 wins at Three Rivers Stadium. Dave Parker hit .334 with 30 home runs and 117 RBI. Willie Stargell hit 28 home runs in 122 games, was named an All-Star Game reserve and received the Hutch Award. Kent Tekulve saved 31 games with a 2.33 ERA, and Bert Blyleven, acquired in a December 1977 four-team trade, went 14-10 with a 3.03 ERA. Card #244 pairs the club with Tanner.

Chuck Tanner homered on his first big-league pitch in 1955, hit .261 as an outfielder and pinch-hitter, then managed the White Sox, Athletics, Pirates and Braves, winning the 1979 World Series with Pittsburgh.
