The story on this card

Texas finished second in the 1978 American League West at 87-75, playing at Arlington Stadium with Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins on the roster. The manager's chair changed hands with one game left. Billy Hunter was fired, and coach Pat Corrales took over, becoming the first Mexican-American manager in the major leagues; the Rangers beat Seattle 9-4 in his debut. Corrales kept the job for 1979, and the club stood 47-34 at the halfway mark, tied with California for first place in the division. His team card is #499.

A defensive catcher who backed up Johnny Bench in Cincinnati during a nine-year playing career, Pat Corrales later managed the Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies and Cleveland Indians over parts of nine seasons.
