1986-87 Fleer #59 Albert King
1986-87 Fleer #59 Albert King

About Albert King
The younger brother of Hall of Famer and NBA scoring champion Bernard King, Albert King was a 6'6" forward out of the University of Maryland, where he was the 1980 ACC Player of the Year and ACC Tournament MVP. Coming out of Brooklyn's Fort Hamilton High School, he had been rated the nation's top prep prospect in 1977 - ahead of Magic Johnson and Gene Banks. The New Jersey Nets took him 10th overall in the 1981 NBA Draft, and this is his rookie card. King played nine NBA seasons (1981-1991) for four teams - the Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, San Antonio Spurs and Washington Bullets - though his best years came with New Jersey from 1981 to 1987. His finest season was 1982-83, when he averaged 17.0 points over 79 games. He finished with 6,470 points in 534 career games, a 12.1 points-per-game average. Maryland retired his No. 55, and in 2002 he was named to the ACC's 50th Anniversary team.
