1986-87 Fleer #60 Bernard King

About Bernard King
One of the greatest pure scorers of the 1980s, Bernard King starred at the University of Tennessee (1974-77), where he and Ernie Grunfeld formed the celebrated "Ernie and Bernie Show." The New Jersey Nets drafted the 6'7" small forward seventh overall in 1977, and over 14 NBA seasons he played for the Nets, Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks (1982-87), and Washington Bullets. King was a four-time All-Star and earned All-NBA First Team honors in 1984 and 1985. His signature year came in 1984-85, when he led the NBA in scoring at 32.9 points per game for the Knicks - a run that included 60 points against the Nets on Christmas Day 1984 and back-to-back 50-point games earlier that season. Named Comeback Player of the Year with Golden State in 1980-81, he authored a second comeback after a devastating knee injury in March 1985, returning to earn another All-Star nod in 1991. King retired with a 22.5-ppg career average and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013. This card captures him mid-prime as a Knick.

About this card
The 1986-87 Fleer Bernard King is card #60 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Bernard King was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the New York Knicks.
