1986-87 Fleer #122 Gerald Wilkins

About Gerald Wilkins
A 6'6" shooting guard, Gerald Wilkins reached the NBA out of Moberly Area Community College and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, taken by the New York Knicks in the second round (47th overall) of the 1985 draft. This 1986-87 Fleer card is his rookie card. Over 14 seasons he played for the Knicks (1985-1992), Cleveland Cavaliers (1992-1994), Vancouver Grizzlies (1995-1996) and Orlando Magic (1996-1999), averaging 13.0 points per game across 900 games. On the strong late-1980s Knicks he was regularly the second-leading scorer behind Patrick Ewing, and he showed off his athleticism in the 1986 and 1987 Slam Dunk Contests. The younger brother of Hall of Fame Hawks star Dominique Wilkins, Gerald was acquired by Cleveland in a bid to get past Michael Jordan's Bulls, and he closed his career alongside Dominique on the 1998-99 Magic. He is also the father of NBA guard Damien Wilkins.
