About Otis Birdsong

A 6'3" scoring guard out of the University of Houston, Otis Birdsong was a consensus All-American and Southwest Conference Player of the Year before the Kansas City Kings took him second overall in the 1977 NBA Draft. He played 12 NBA seasons (1977-1989), four with the Kings, seven with the New Jersey Nets, and a final year with the Boston Celtics, and was named to four NBA All-Star Games. Birdsong earned All-NBA Second Team honors in 1980-81, the same season he posted a career-high 24.6 points per game and helped the fifth-seeded Kings reach the Western Conference Finals. He finished with 12,544 career points and an 18.0 points-per-game average. Traded to New Jersey in 1981, he was a key scorer on the Nets club that upset the defending-champion Philadelphia 76ers in the 1984 playoffs. This card captures him during his Nets tenure. Houston later retired his No. 10 jersey.

About this card

The 1986-87 Fleer Otis Birdsong is card #10 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Otis Birdsong was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the New Jersey Nets.
