About Mike Gminski

A 6'11" center out of Duke, Mike Gminski was a Blue Devils cornerstone from 1976-77 through 1979-80 - a consensus All-American, the 1979 ACC Player of the Year, and Duke's career leader in points (2,323), rebounds (1,242), and blocked shots (345) when he graduated, with his No. 43 later retired. A pioneer of reclassifying, he had finished high school in three years to reach college sooner. The New Jersey Nets took him seventh overall in the 1980 NBA Draft, and "G-Man" went on to a durable 14-season career (1980-1994) with the Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, and Milwaukee Bucks. He averaged 11.7 points and 6.9 rebounds and was an exceptional free-throw shooter for a big man, converting over 84% for his career. After retiring he became a longtime college basketball TV analyst.

About this card

The 1986-87 Fleer Mike Gminski is card #38 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Mike Gminski was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the New Jersey Nets.
