About Rickey Green
A blazing 6'0" point guard out of Chicago, Rickey Green starred at Vincennes junior college before transferring to Michigan, where he was a consensus first-team All-American in 1977. Golden State drafted him 16th overall that year, but his career took time to find its footing: he passed through the Warriors and Pistons and was out of the NBA in 1979-80 before landing with the Utah Jazz in 1980, the club he is most identified with. Green's peak came in 1983-84, when he averaged a career-high 9.2 assists, led the NBA in steals both per game (2.7) and total (215), and earned the lone All-Star selection of his 14-year career. He spent eight seasons in Utah, later playing for Charlotte, Milwaukee, Indiana, Philadelphia and Boston, and retired in 1992 with career averages of 9.4 points, 5.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Jazz broadcaster Hot Rod Hundley dubbed him "The Fastest of Them All," a nod to the end-to-end speed that defined his game. This is a base-set common from his Utah years.
