About Adrian Dantley

A 6'5" scoring forward out of Notre Dame, where he was a two-time consensus All-American, Adrian Dantley was drafted 6th overall by the Buffalo Braves in 1976 and won NBA Rookie of the Year in 1977. Over 15 NBA seasons he suited up for seven franchises - Buffalo, Indiana, the Lakers, the Utah Jazz (1979-86, his prime years shown on this card), Detroit, Dallas and Milwaukee. A relentless post-up small forward and one of the game's great foul-drawers, Dantley led the NBA in scoring twice (1981 and 1984), was named to six All-Star teams (1980-82, 1984-86) and earned two All-NBA Second Team selections. He was Comeback Player of the Year in 1984 and once poured in 57 points in a game (Dec. 4, 1982), tying the record with 28 free throws made. Nicknamed "A.D." (for Adrian Delano Dantley), he retired with 23,177 career points at 24.3 per game. Utah retired his No. 4 in 2007, and he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.

About this card

The 1986-87 Fleer Adrian Dantley is card #21 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Adrian Dantley was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the Utah Jazz.
