1986-87 Fleer #77 Chris Mullin
1986-87 Fleer #77 Chris Mullin
Hall of Fame rookie - and a "Rule of 11" sheet-edge card that is tough in top grade.

About Chris Mullin
A Brooklyn-born sharpshooter, Chris Mullin starred at St. John's, where he was a three-time Big East Player of the Year and won the 1985 Wooden Award as national college player of the year. The Golden State Warriors took him seventh overall in the 1985 draft, making this his rookie card. A left-handed shooting guard/small forward, Mullin played 16 NBA seasons (1985-2001), spending most of his career with Golden State plus three seasons with the Indiana Pacers. He was a five-time All-Star (1989-1993) and four-time All-NBA selection (First Team in 1992), and finished with 17,911 career points at 18.2 per game. In 1989 he, Mitch Richmond, and Tim Hardaway formed "Run TMC" - the trio's initials playing on the rap group Run-D.M.C. - the NBA's highest-scoring backcourt under Don Nelson's run-and-gun offense. Mullin also won Olympic gold in 1984 and again in 1992 with the Dream Team. He overcame alcoholism early in his career, later served as Warriors GM and St. John's head coach, had his No. 17 retired by Golden State, and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.

About this card

Because of the multi-year gap, it is the recognized Rookie Card for Chris Mullin. He is pictured with the Golden State Warriors.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1986-87 Fleer Chris Mullin card?
It is card #77 of 132 in the 1986-87 Fleer Basketball set - Fleer's 'Premier' issue and the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps. It pictures the Golden State Warriors Chris Mullin, and is his recognized rookie card.
Is the 1986-87 Fleer Chris Mullin his rookie card?
Yes - the hobby treats 1986-87 Fleer as the Rookie Card for any player whose first nationally-distributed (pack-issued) card it is. Chris Mullin had no Topps card before the set, so this is his recognized RC. (Limited-distribution Star Company cards from 1983-86 are classed as Extended Rookie Cards.)
How do I spot a fake Chris Mullin 1986-87 Fleer card?
1986-87 Fleer is the most counterfeited basketball set. Genuine cards are crisp and dark with an intact micro-dot print pattern; fakes look fuzzy or flat. Check the Fleer 'Premier' logo (the arrow is a darker gold than the yellow box) and, on the back, the NBA Players Association basketball, whose seam lines are visible on a real card and filled solid on a fake. For high-value copies, buy professionally graded (PSA/BGS/SGC) and verify the cert.
Why is the Chris Mullin hard to find in high grade?
It is one of the set's condition-sensitive cards. The flush red/white/blue borders chip to reveal the white core at the slightest touch, and centering is tough - so high grades are far scarcer than the player's profile suggests.
Is the 1986-87 Fleer Chris Mullin valuable?
Value depends heavily on grade and centering. Use the links above to check current T206 Cards inventory and live eBay listings.
