About Eric Floyd

Born Eric Augustus Floyd, he was nicknamed "Sleepy" in fourth-grade baseball when a spectator yelled to get the kid who was "sleeping" out of the game. A point guard out of Georgetown - where he set the school's career scoring record with 2,304 points - Floyd was drafted 13th overall by the New Jersey Nets in 1982 and played 13 NBA seasons (1982-1995) for the Nets, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs, averaging 12.8 points and 5.4 assists over 957 games. He earned his lone All-Star selection in 1987 with Golden State. That same postseason he authored one of the most famous playoff performances ever: 51 points in Game 4 of the 1987 Western Conference Semifinals against the Lakers, setting still-standing NBA playoff records for points in a quarter (29) and in a half (39). This 1986-87 Fleer card is his rookie, and though the nameplate reads "ERIC FLOYD," he is universally known as "Sleepy" Floyd.
