About Purvis Short

A 6'7" small forward out of Jackson State University, Purvis Short was selected 5th overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 1978 NBA Draft and played 12 NBA seasons (1978-1990) for three teams: the Warriors (1978-1987), Houston Rockets (1987-1989), and New Jersey Nets (1989-1990). A prolific scorer, he averaged 17.3 points per game over 842 career games and remains one of the Warriors' all-time leading scorers. Short peaked in the mid-1980s, averaging 28.0 points per game in 1984-85 (4th in the NBA) and 25.5 in 1985-86 (5th). On November 17, 1984, he poured in a career-high 59 points against the New Jersey Nets. He earned the nickname "Rainbowman" for the distinctive high, arcing trajectory of his jump shot, a rainbow release he developed back in high school. This card captures Short during his prime years as Golden State's leading scorer, before he later closed out his career with the Rockets and Nets.

About this card

The 1986-87 Fleer Purvis Short is card #100 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Purvis Short was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the Golden State Warriors.
