About Byron Scott
Born Byron Antom Scott, the Arizona State shooting guard was chosen fourth overall by the San Diego Clippers in the 1983 NBA Draft and immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, making this his official rookie card. Scott became the starting two-guard of the "Showtime" Lakers alongside Magic Johnson, James Worthy and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and won three NBA championships (1985, 1987 and 1988). Named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1984, he peaked in the 1987-88 title season, leading the champion Lakers in scoring at a career-best 21.7 points per game. Over 1,073 games across 14 NBA seasons - primarily with the Lakers, plus stints with the Indiana Pacers and Vancouver Grizzlies - he averaged 14.1 points on 48% shooting, and later played a final year in Greece. Scott went on to a long head-coaching career with the Nets, Hornets, Cavaliers and Lakers, twice reaching the NBA Finals with New Jersey.
