1986-87 Fleer #101 Jerry Sichting
1986-87 Fleer #101 Jerry Sichting

About Jerry Sichting
A steady 6'1" point guard from Martinsville, Indiana, Jerry Lee Sichting played four years at Purdue (1975-1979), where he set the school's career free-throw percentage record (.867) and once made 34 in a row. Drafted in the fourth round (82nd overall) by Golden State in 1979, he never suited up for the Warriors, breaking into the NBA with the Indiana Pacers in 1980. Over 10 seasons he played for the Pacers (1980-85), Boston Celtics (1985-88), Portland Trail Blazers, Charlotte Hornets and Milwaukee Bucks, averaging 6.9 points and 3.3 assists a game while shooting a superb .857 from the free-throw line. His signature season came with the 1985-86 Celtics: a reliable reserve guard, he won an NBA championship and was one of only two Celtics, along with Larry Bird, to play all 82 regular-season games. Sichting is best remembered for Game 5 of the 1986 NBA Finals, when 7'4" Rockets center Ralph Sampson threw punches at the far smaller guard and was ejected in one of the era's most infamous brawls. This 1986-87 Fleer card is his rookie card.
